Greek Tourism On Track To Surpass 17 Million Arrivals This Year
Recent data on international arrivals at some of Greece’s most popular destinations during the month of June has suggested that numbers may possibly surpass the initial forecast of 17 million foreign tourists in Greece this year.
According to the Greek press, arrivals from abroad to the airports of Iraklio, Rhodes, Corfu and Zakynthos exceeded one million in June and recorded a 14.7 percent rise from the same month in 2012.
More specifically, arrivals at Iraklio airport were up 19.8 percent, at Rhodes 18.4 percent, at Zakynthos 12.5 percent and at Corfu 8.2 percent.
Optimism of a 16 percent increase on average at the airports of Kos, Mykonos and Kefalonia has also been expressed.
The Greek press said many hotels on popular Greek destinations are already fully booked for July and August, which leads to the impression that international arrivals may even surpass initial expectations of 17 million this year.
