Greece Revokes Free Entrance To State Museums And Sites On World Tourism Day

entrance_IMGP0186The Greek Government recently decided to abolish the free admission to state museums and archaeological sites on World Tourism Day (27 September), according to blog Tourism Lobby.

The blog questioned the logic behind this move, which became official through a joint ministerial decision signed by the Ministries of Economy and Culture-Sports.

“Meanwhile, the free admission to state museums and archaeological sites on World Environment Day (5 June) has remained,” Tourism Lobby commented.

The free admission to Greek state museums and archaeological sites on World Tourism Day has been in effect since 2004.

The World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on 27 September since 1980. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.
