ANEK Lines Vice President Yiorgos Katsanevakis (first from left) attended the blood donation drive.

“Be a sponsor to life” was the slogan of the sixth blood donation drive organized by shipping company ANEK LINES last month in collaboration with the Chania Voluntary Blood Donor Association “Agios Ioannis” and the General Hospital of Chania.

The blood donation drive was held for the second time on board the F/B ELYROS and involved a total of 50 presenting doners, citizens and members of the company staff (managers, employees, crews).

The drive netted 30 units and will benefit the needs of road accident victims, patients with thalassemia, pregnant women etc.

“Greece needs 600,000 units of blood every year of which just 40 percent is covered by volunteer donors. The holding of drives such as the one of ANEK LINES is a catalyst for mobilizing society at local and national level,” the president of the Chania Voluntary Blood Donor Association, Despina Rodousakis, said.
