Pastry Chef Yiorgos Bahtis from the NJV Athens Plaza Hotel was honored with the gold medal at the Global Chefs Challenge that took place last weekend on the sidelines of the 8th HORECA Expo (8-11 February).
Inspired by modern Greek pastry, Mr. Bahtis prepared a desert based on the pistachio nut (fistiki) from Aegina entitled “Journey to the land of the nut” and won first place.
The Global Chefs Challenge is a preliminary competition that determines the finalists that will compete at the 36th World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Congress in Norway in 2014.
Mr. Bahtis is a member of the team of Executive Pastry Chef Tasos Zisopoulos of the NJV Athens Plaza Hotel. Mr. Zisopoulos’ team creates individual flavors that represent modern gastronomy’s latest on the menu of the hotel’s “The Parliament” restaurant and the “Café Plaza Lounge.”
