Greek Municipalities Invited To Form Local Tourism Networks
The Development and Tourism Programs Committee of the Central Union of Municipalities in Greece (KEDE) recently called on to Greek municipalities located in tourist areas (tourist municipalities) to join its initiative to establish a Local Tourism Network in each municipality.
According to KEDE, the aim is to establish a consultative team in each “tourist municipality” that will monitor the progress of tourism through existing information and other data relative to the local tourist offer and the incoming and domestic tourism demand.
The consultative team would suggest initiatives and measures and actively support particular needs of the destination in question.
Local tourism professionals, local authorities in the area of tourism and individuals that directly or indirectly enhance the tourism activity could be part of the scheme.
KEDE said the networks would operate informally to provide ideas and suggestions but also offer specific assistance if conditions required the development, management and promotion of tourism on a local level (volunteer work for information campaigns, promotion and public relations for tourism).
KEDE has sent a memo to all Greek tourist municipalities and is expecting their feedback on the initiative.
