Greek Municipalities Invited To Share Good Tourism Practices
The Central Union of Municipalities in Greece (KEDE) is inviting Greek municipalities to help build a “good tourism practice” databank by submitting their successful initiatives in regards to the development, management and promotion of tourism at a local level.
The union this way aims to provide information and ideas to other municipalities interested in launching similar actions in the future.
A “good tourism practices” link was recently included in the tourism section of KEDE’s main website and already two initiatives have been submitted.
The first “good tourism practice” submitted comes from the Municipality of Hersonissos (Heraklion), Crete, and is in regards to the planning and implementation of the “Be Our Crete Reporter. Explore Hersonissos Municipality” campaign through two leading tourism portals Zoover and Trivago.
The participants in the contest were basically tourists called to tour and promote Hersonissos (not only the renowned beach area but also the relatively unknown surroundings) through personal photographs and videos.
Details of the campaign and related photos and videos can be seen here.
Another “good tourism practice” that has been submitted, is the launch of the Organization for Rhodian Tourism Promotion (PROTOUR).
PROTOUR was founded in 1996 on the initiative of the Rhodes Hoteliers’ Association, the Organization of Local Municipalities and the Chamber of Commerce of the Dodecanese, which represents the productive classes.
For Greece it is considered an innovating institution that coordinates the activities of the Organization of Rhodian Municipalities and of the productive classes in a common effort for recording, remodelling, improving, promoting and advertising the tourism product of Rhodes.
It is noted that this is the first attempt to record local good practices and initiatives for tourism in Greece.
