World Tourism Day was celebrated on 27 September globally around the theme “Tourism-Linking Cultures” and highlighted tourism’s role in bringing the cultures of the world together and promoting global understanding through travel.
Greece, on the other hand, was up against another wave of transportation strikes in a continued protest against government reforms.
Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Yeroulanos celebrated World Tourism Day with experts in the tourism and culture field at events held at Aswan in Egypt and also attended a high level Think Tank.
On World Tourism Day, the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies called on to the political leadership, political parties, tourism professionals and also each citizen individually to stand united and form a “Contract with Society” for Greek tourism.
The General Pan-Hellenic Federation of Tourism Enterprises in a press release referred to the “worthy professional-business sector” of tourism that achieved satisfactory results this year despite major problems.
The federation called for the public sector, ministers and politicians to “understand the value of tourism some day.”
