The possibility of Tripoli’s military airport also operating as a civil airport for low cost carriers was recently approved at the Regional Council of the Peloponnese.
According to Petros Tatoulis, Peloponnese Regional Authority chief, the aim is to operate a small airport that will flourish as a civilian airport for low cost carriers and serve charters and continue to serve the needs of the military. He said an international tender would be launched.
Dimitris Pollalis, the president of the Laconia Hotel Association, told the press such an intervention was necessary for the development of the region.
“There is strong interest from tour operators to use the Tripoli Airport,” Mr. Pollalis said.
The region’s chief Mr. Tatoulis said the next step of the region is to present an action plan for upgrading the airport of Kalamata and to develop infrastructure for the cruise industry.
