Greek-Turkish Culture And Tourism Cooperation
Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Geroulanos and his Turkish counterpart Ertugrul Gunay signed last month a joint declaration for cooperation in culture and tourism during the first meeting of the High-Level Greek-Turkish Council for Strategic Partnership. The meeting took place in Athens in the presence of the prime ministers of Greece and Turkey, Yiorgos Papandreou and Rejep Tayip Erdogan.
In regards to tourism the agreement promotes joint Greek-Turkish tourism packages to third countries, mainly China.
The joint declaration will also explore the potential for cooperation in cultural tourism mainly through “cultural routes” (Wine Road, Olive Road, etc.) and see to enhance the cooperation of the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA) and TURSAB.
The agreement includes the organization of the 8th Greek-Turkish tourism forum in Athens this fall.
In regards to culture the joint declaration promotes cooperation between the two ministries in regards to the preservation of cultural heritage.
