Greece At Harrods
At the start of the new decade Greece literally starred in Harrods in London, United Kingdom, at a time when some 3.5 million shoppers visited the department store during the holidays and the discount season.
Greece’s promotional campaign at Harrods, organized by C & L Media, was held 26 December 2009-23 January 2010 and according to organizers it was considered a major international success.
On Brompton Road, 12 out of the 72 central windows of Harrods included the prefectures of Cyclades, Dodecanese, Rethymno, Lassithi, Chania, Magnesia and Messinia, the municipalities of Kos and Laganas (Kerkyra) and Costa Navarino.
In addition, two “live” showcases at the main facade of Harrods recreated traditional Greek scenery and ancient Greek theater. A contest was also organized for a visit to Rodos.
According to organizers, the effort was a unique opportunity to promote Greek tourism at a time when Greece is up against international criticism and faces difficult decisions.
The U.K. is one of the biggest markets for Greece’s tourism sector.
