Minister Emphasizes Conference Tourism
The tourism ministry aims to increase the number of major international conferences hosted by Greece in the coming years, Tourism Minister Kostas Markopoulos recently said at a conference organized by Financial Times Global Events and the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“This will be for the benefit of tourism professionals, hoteliers and hundreds of suppliers that are connected with the organization of a conference,” said the tourism minister. He added that the ministry has already recorded and located events that are to take place during the period 2010-2013.
“We are in the process of submiting applications for each open event,” he said.
Furthermore, Mr. Markopoulos said the ministry would soon announce a package of special complimentary benefits to those who will choose Greece as their conference destination.
The package of benefits will include amenities such as free public transport access for delegates and in some cases even the subsidization of the cost of the conference center.
