XL Leisure Goes Bust
Britain’s third largest package holiday operator XL Leisure Group went bankrupt last month due to high prices for jet fuel and adverse economic conditions.
According to the Greek Civil Aviation Authority, at the time of the company’s closure a total of 85,000 people were stranded abroad and 200,000 had made advanced bookings.
XL Leisure Group, which operated XL airlines and flew to 50 destinations, offered flights and package holidays to the Mediterranean, including Greek islands (Crete, Rodos, Zakynthos) and the Caribbean.
The group, which carried 2.3 million passengers last year, had 1,700 employees worldwide.
