Sunways Travel Goes Green
Sunways Travel advised all travelers to “travel responsibly” at the presentation of its new environmental strategy in an event organized under the auspices of the City of Athens and the support of Technopolis and the Athens Tourism & Economic Development Company.
Vassilis Kanellopoulos, owner of Sunways Travel, said: “We acknowledge the interactive relationship between tourism and the environment and thus have designed a new strategy aimed at protecting the environment from the negative effects of tourism activity.”
Under the new corporate social responsibility program, Sunways Travel voluntarily pays one percent of its revenue to renewable energy projects to offset the carbon dioxide emissions caused by the transfers and overnights of its customers.
Giorgos Kazantzopoulos, chief executive of Climate Partner Group, said: “Sunways Travel is currently an exclusive eco-friendly tourism office in Greece and aims towards a balanced relation between the environment and tourism activity.” He added: “Customers are given the opportunity to travel responsibly, while contributing to the protection of the environment and the prevention of climate change on the planet.”
Sunways Travel asserts its efficient and environmental practices through recyclable brochures and pamphlets, by meeting the environmental quality standards ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 and by implementing measures to reduce the company’s energy consumption.
Andreas Loukakis, biologist and publisher of “Go Natural” magazine, spoke at the event about the establishment of the Athens Green Club, which would aim for the awareness of citizens through the development of activities such as gardening, healthy nutrition tips, trekking and cycling.
Greek Travel Pages, Mad TV, MAD Radio and Athens Voice were the communication sponsors of the event.
