HATTA President Voices Concern on T.V. Show
Yiannis Evangelou, president of the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA), recently voiced his concern for Europe as a travel destination on the Business & Travel show on “sbc” channel. Mr. Evangelou explained that due to the high-priced euro, travelers would opt for less costly destinations such as America and Asia.
The president of HATTA estimated that in 2008, incoming tourism from the United Kingdom would decrease by five percent while the percentage of tourists from Germany would remain at 2007 rates. He added that travel services are changing worldwide with emphasis placed on the use of technology and therefore Greece must adapt so as to manage its own tourism product effectively.
Also, Mr. Evangelou announced the creation of two new bodies, that is, the committee of friendly resolution between consumer and organizer and a dual warranty chapter as a body to manage consumer protection in the event of an organizer being unable to fulfill their obligation. He also revealed the categorization of travel agencies for all those involved in incoming tourism. Business & Travel is a weekly show dedicated to the latest news on the travel industry and tourism real estate.
