Austrian Tour Operators in Laconia
Some 25 Austrian tour operators and media members headed by Niko Papamike, representative of a Vienna-based tour operator, and Ioanna Rafalia, press and public relations officer of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) in Austria, visited Gythio recently, hosted by Laconia Hotel Association and the Prefectural Administration of Laconia.
The aim of the visit was to for the group to see for themselves that despite negative media coverage worldwide, the fires have not affected tourism in the region and the prefecture is more than ready to welcome tourists this summer. The guests toured the prefecture, visited sites such as the Cave of Alepotrypa at Diros (Itilo) and the Byzantine settlement of Mystras that is an UNESCO world heritage site. The group also enjoyed local delicacies and Laconia’s renowned hospitality.
Laconia Hotel Association President Dimitris Pollalis (Palazzo Hotel) escorted the group and expressed his satisfaction with the positive comments received from them. In fact, Mr. Papamike expressed his support for the prefecture of Laconia and his aim for a weekly charter flight from Vienna.
