Athens and Sofia Sign Protocol
Mayor of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis and Mayor of Sofia Boyko Borisov signed a protocol of peace and cooperation between the two cities. The protocol specifies an exchange of information on public sector management between Greece’s capital and the capital of Bulgaria, that is, management of human resources, cultural activities and tourism, youth and athleticism and the protection of the environment.
The protocol also anticipates joint participation in European Union-funded projects on community experience and project management, co-organization of educational seminars and student exchanges with regard to waste management and recycling, and support for the mutual development of the cities’ cultural heritage. The two mayors also agreed on the formation of a friendship and cooperation committee with members from both cities so as to oversee and administer the aforementioned aims.
Mr. Kaklamanis said: “This is the first time the mayor of Sofia has come to Athens and I am happy we have already agreed to cooperate on four major issues: the environment, cultural heritage, tourism and the economic development of both cities.”
