Greek tourism has been offered a unique opportunity to benefit from a more organized worldwide online promotion through the adoption of the “.travel” domain ending for destinations, organizations and travel companies.
Trialliance International, the company that manages the .travel domain worldwide, launched an extensive campaign for branding in order to establish .travel authorized websites as a symbol of genuine tourism both for members of the travel sector and consumers.
In Greece, the promotion and application procedure began in May. The new ending .travel, that is specifically aimed at the tourism sector, is the only sponsored top level domain that is supported by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Worldwide, some 120 national and international tourism bodies have supported this domain.
In order for a tourism body to acquire the .travel ending they have to meet certain prerequisites and criteria, unlike with .com sites. In Greece, the Association of Greek Tourist Enterprises is responsible for the assessment of applicants who wish to acquire the .travel ending for their website.
Travel Media Applications is responsible for the promotion of the .travel domain in Greece and Cyprus.
