First Portal for Agro-Tourism
Agrotouristiki SA, the state corporation for alternative tourism development, created Greece’s first internet portal on agro-tourism.
At the official opening for the portal, Brigitta Papastavrou, president and managing director of Agrotouristiki, said that this portal enables “Greek agro-tourism to become part of the ‘global village,’ and finally places rural tourism on the country’s tourism and development program.”
Ms Papastavrou explained that the portal is intended to “help create and support new businesses, to attract high-quality tourists, both Greek and foreign, to highlight the natural beauty and living traditions found throughout Greece, to promote existing agro-tourism businesses, and to support those interested in investing in this dynamic sector.” The portal consists of three separate sites, one for investments, one for travel, and one on the company itself. The investment site (www.ruralinvest.gr) is a guide for investing in agro-tourism and contains useful information for potential investors. For the first time all the invitations to tender for businesses involving agro-tourism will be posted on this site.
The travel site (www.agrotravel.gr) provides information on more than 800 agro-tourism lodgings, traditional guesthouses and farms. It also includes maps and useful information on every region including activities and entertainment, the local agricultural goods available and the traditional workshops they are produced in and places they are sold.
Agrotouristiki’s site (www.agrotour.gr) presents the company’s activities, the studies being undertaken, the initiatives it promotes and the investments that it manages.
