Some 90 journalists from home and abroad latched onto the opportunity to experience the rich history, culture and traditions of the island of Amorgos during last month’s 3rd International Convention of Culture & Tourism hosted by the island’s Aigialis hotel.
Speakers at the conference stressed the importance of local culture and customs and how each should be promoted in order to show the uniqueness of each destination. Amorgos, for example, has a tradition in the use of silk, as well as traditional Mediterranean “healthy food” products, said one speaker.
Others mentioned the need for culture exchanges among peoples and the mix of various cultures so as to foster peace and friendship.
Local speakers stressed the need for the Greek islands in general to enjoy improved ferry services in coordination with fair prices and improved services in order to ensure tourism development.
