Handling Companies Head for New Athens Airport
Olympic Airways was selected to supply ground, cargo and fuel into-plane handling services as the new Athens International Airport at Spata.
This marks the first time Olympic enters the fuel market. The airline has a highly-automated cargo terminal worth six billion drachmas
Goldair Handling, one of the other companies selected to handle ground, baggage and cargo services at the new Athens Airport, also says it is ready to serve.
The Athens-based company has already initiated all necessary measures so as to be ready for the airport’s pilot test period that begins this October. Goldair the first private Greek company to supply complete ground services, has invested some five billion drachmas in equipment.
Presently, its 500-plus employees carry out ground services at Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion airports.
Future expansion plans include service set up at other Greek airports, as well as European airports.
Goldair handling is owned by the Goldair Group, Aegean Airlines, Alpha Ventures, Globeground (Lufthansa), KLM and FAG (Frankfurt Airport).
