The region of Halkidiki in northern Greece is ready to welcome visitors from the UK and Holland next year, the Halkidiki Tourism Organization said upon its return from the World Travel Market (WTM) London.
The Halkidiki Tourism Organization recently visited the municipality of Zingst in Germany’s Vorpommern-Rügen district to learn more about an innovative local tourism initiative which has contributed to the extension of the tourist season there by four months.
Fifty-two of Greece’s 430 beaches awarded for their quality are located in the Halkidiki peninsula in northern Greece, the Halkidiki Tourism Organization (HTO) said recently, demonstrating the region’s commitment to “responsible tourism”.
Under the title “Empty Beaches, Sleepy Villages and Quiet Tavernas” the London Times featured this month the tiny Halkidiki island of Ammouliani for its white sand, spectacular view, warm hospitality and great food.
The management of the refugee crisis in the coming months will determine if Greece will see an increase in tourism arrivals, as the country must first maintain its reputation as a safe and hospitable destination, according to the Halkidiki Tourism Organization.
Greek destinations and enterprises once again drew in the crowds at the recent East Mediterranean Tourism and Travel Exhibition – EMITT, which ran at the Tuyap Fair and Congress Center in Istanbul, Turkey.
A number of Greek hotels, travel agencies, associations and destinations are participating in this year's East Mediterranean Tourism and Travel Exhibition – EMITT and will show their best to international industry professionals and Turkish consumers.
