Greece is aiming to increase the number of beaches awarded the special Blue Flag eco-label that certifies quality, safety, environmental education and information.

Greek beaches have consecutively been listed in the top three spots of the highly coveted Blue Flags Program, the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF) said on occasion of the 30th anniversary of the project.

Halkidiki Beaches Take the Lead with Most Blue Flags in Greece

Fifty-two of Greece’s 430 beaches awarded for their quality are located in the Halkidiki peninsula in northern Greece, the Halkidiki Tourism Organization (HTO) said recently, demonstrating the region’s commitment to “responsible tourism”.
