Greek ‘Breakfast Basket’ Initiative Introduced at Xenia 2017 Expo
The “Breakfast Basket” initiative of the Greek Confederation of Tourist Accommodation Enterprises (SETKE) made its debut and was presented to tourism figures and professionals during the recent Xenia 2017 hospitality show in Athens.
The “Breakfast Basket” initiative involves select food items offered to visitors at lodgings in 13 regions of Greece.
“Our initiative is directly related to the upgrading of the quality of the services provided by all lodgings to its guests,” SETKE President Panagiotis Tokouzis said while presenting the “Breakfast Basket”, during the confederation’s second congress held on the sidelines of the Xenia expo.
According to Tokouzis, the “Breakfast Basket” is a new service that aims to connect the lodgings sector with local communities and the primary sector, while offering a new culinary experience to visitors.
“The ‘Breakfast Basket’ will be updated and enriched per region, with an emphasis on local cuisine and traditional products of every destination,” he added.
The service, which has specific criteria and specifications for the preparation of breakfast, is aimed to be adopted by small lodgings that do not have dining facilities, as well as those that have a food and beverage department.
The “Breakfast Basket” initiative was applauded by Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura who said the ministry supports the promotion of the innovative service and any action that enriches the offered product in accommodation and hospitality.
During SETKE’s congress, Kountoura was honored by Tokouzis for her support to the confederation, the lodgings sector and the “Breakfast Basket” initiative.
Tokouzis also honored South Aegean Prefect George Hatzimarkos for his cooperation in putting together the “Breakfast Basket” of the South Aegean.
‘Breakfast Basket’ of the South Aegean
Following SETKE’s congress, a presentation of the “Breakfast Basket” of the South Aegean was given at the Gastronomy Summit of the Xenia 2017 expo. Experienced chefs from various islands of the Dodecanese and Cyclades, prepared a selection of dishes based on “forgotten” traditional recipes and local products.
It is noted that the Region of South Aegean in January received the “European Region of Gastronomy 2019” title.
The “Breakfast Basket” initiative is expected to launch at lodgings in Greece’s 13 regions as of next year.
