Greece Ready for WTM London 2017 Tourism Expo

Greece will be promoted as a 365-days-a-year tourism destination at the World Travel Market (WTM) London that will open its doors on Monday, November 6, at ExCeL.

In its 38th year, WTM London attracts a global audience that shape the travel industry.

WTM London 2017 will kick off for Greece with the inauguration of the Visit Greece (Greek National Tourism Organization-GNTO) stand — EU 1200 — at 10 am by Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura.

At 2pm the GNTO will hold a press conference and networking event at the WTM London Press Centre — ME580 — for journalists, bloggers and travel professionals.

She will focus on Greece as a 365-days-a-year tourism destination and the importance of sustainable development in tourism for local communities.

The minister will be joined on the stage by author and actress, Joanna Lumley, who will talk on her personal experiences during filming in Greece as well as the unique and diverse portfolio of attributes that establish Greece as an all-year-round destination for UK holidaymakers.

The press conference will be followed by a networking event with Greek wines and canapés.

During her stay in London, Minister Kountoura will hold meetings with British and international tourism industry executives, tour operators and airlines to promote new partnerships in 2018.

Moreover, the Greek minister will be among the speakers at the 11th edition of the UNWTO/WTM Ministers’ Summit to be held under the title ‘Overtourism: growth is not the enemy; it is how we manage it’. The summit will focus on “overtourism” and address issues such as congestion management and the measurement of the impacts of tourism.

As every year, the Visit Greece stand will host a number of exhibitors including representatives of hotels, regions and travel companies from across the country and its islands. For the three days of the WTM, the Greek professionals will network, negotiate and conduct deals.

South Aegean Region will welcome WTM attendees

The South Aegean Region will once again give visitors to the WTM London a grand welcome once they reach the ExCeL Center entrance. For the third consecutive year, a digital pyramid consisting of electronic screens will play high quality videos starring the islands of the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.

At this year’s WTM, the South Aegean Region will host 22 Aegean islands, giving them the chance to promote their tourism product to professionals from different parts of the world.

This year, more than 130 new exhibitors from across the globe have signed up for the three-day event, representing every continent and every sector of the travel trade, including destinations, technology, hospitality, tour operating, cruising, insurance and car hire.
