Halkidiki Enjoys Rise in 2017 Overnight Stays
Tourism arrivals in the area of Halkidiki are on the up this season and local officials are expecting to see a rise in overnight stays by five to seven percent.
According to the president of the Halkidiki Hotels Association Grigoris Tasios, arrivals from Germany are on an upward trend followed by visitors from the UK, while the number of Russian tourists remains unchanged, compared to last year. “New nationalities have been recorded in the area, including Dutch, Belgian and Italian tourists. Moreover, Halkidiki during the last five years has remained a top destination in the preferences of tourists from the Balkans,” Tasios recently told Greek radio station “Praktorio 104.9 FM”.
Considering that the tourism season in Halkidiki lasts five months, Tasios said that 2017 has been a good year so far. Although occupancy levels are high in August, he added that there are still rooms available and that prices are expected to drop after August 25.
The average occupancy rate for Halkidiki’s hotels is expected to reach 75 percent in September and, according to Tasios, last minute bookings are expected to increase and extend the tourism season until October 15.
“The country should promote the hospitality and the sense of safety that Greece offers its tourists”, Tasios underlined.
