Athens to Welcome French President Macron Next Month
The Greek government is readying for French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Athens on September 7 and 8, aiming through talks to attract French investments and win over support for Greece’s return to international markets.
This is Macron’s first visit to Greece after his election in June. According to media reports, EU policy and debt relief for Greece are on the agenda of talks with his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras.
The Greek premier will then attend the 82nd Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) on September 9 and 10, where he will deliver his annual address. Government insiders say Tsipras may announce the interest of French companies to invest in Greece.
Besides meeting with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Macron will attend a special event with Tsipras at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and is scheduled to speak at Pnyx Hill.
