Tourism Ministry Urges Visitors to ‘Discover North Athens’

Ways of promoting North Athens as a tourism destination were discussed in a recent meeting of Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura and the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization, Konstantinos Tsegas with the vice governor of North Athens, George Karameros and the president of the Institute of Agronomic Sciences, Anna Maria Giantsi.

The “Discover North Athens” cooperation scheme was launched by the Region of North Athens in early 2017 and was then introduced to the Chinese market with positive results, an announcement said.

Minister Kountoura spoke of the ministry’s policy to turn Attica into a year round destination and expressed her will to work closely with the partners of “Discover North Athens”. She also underlined the Ministry’s exceptional collaboration with Attica Governor Rena Dourou and said the ministry will continue to support efforts that aim to upgrade the tourism product.

Vice governor George Karameros said northern Athens includes areas of natural significance and infrastructure that can be developed further and include Mount Penteli, the Syngros Park, the Yannis Tsarouchis Foundation Museum, the Olympic Stadium, spaces of art and culture, hotels and malls.

On her part, Anna Maria Giantsi presented the natural features of the Syngros Park and the efforts being made to attract visitors to Marousi and Kifisia, two of Attica’s historic areas.
