German Instagrammers Show Athens to the World

Within the framework of the Athens Tourism Partnership (ATP), a joint initiative of the City of Athens, AEGEAN and the Athens International Airport (AIA), four of the 10 most popular German Instagrammers recently visited Athens and shared their impressions with the rest of the world.

The four Instagrammers count more than 1.2 million followers, according to an announcement by the City of Athens.

Joerg, Phoebe, Sylvia and Thomas – also known on Instagram as @jn, @palomaparrot, @goldie_berlin and @melbondo – became “Athenians” for a few days and visited renowned and “unknown” areas, which combine elements of Athens’ past, present and future.

They saw the graffiti in the areas of Gazi and Exarchia and the view from the Lycabettus hill; they experienced the “light” of both the Acropolis and the cape of  Sounio; they visited the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the National Museum of Contemporary Art and the documenta 14 exhibition; the modern bars and restaurants and the traditional tavernas. All places constituted the perfect scenery for the photos taken by the four Instagrammers. When uploaded on their personal accounts citing #thisisathens, the photos gathered 250,000 “likes” in just a few days.

The Instagrammers’ comments also indicate their enthusiasm:

“Athens is definitely the new ‘hot place’ for every traveler.”

“It is a city by the sea, with beautiful places to see, exceptional food to taste and the most warm, hospitable residents to meet.”

The Athens Tourism Partnerhsip was launched in 2016 to promote Athens as a contemporary cultural center and an attractive tourism destination all year round, the Municipality said. Within this framework, the campaign “One City. Never Ending Stories” constitutes a communication channel between Athens and the rest of the world, while it aims at enhancing the capital’s position as city brake destination, offering visitors unique experiences.
