Authentic Experiences at Creta Maris: Care of the Vineyard and Wine Tasting
Guests of the Creta Maris Beach Resort in Hersonissos, Crete, were recently introduced to the resort’s vineyard and were educated on the special characteristics of the island’s wines during a wine tasting event.
The two events, held on July 12, were carried out within the context of Creta Maris’ participation in the “TUI Care Foundation, FUTOURIS Project: Crete, First steps towards a sustainable food destination 2017-2019”.
Creta Maris is one of the hotels that have joined the project, which launched last year and aims to link the most important economic factors of Greece’s largest island – tourism and agriculture.
During Creta Maris’ event, guests received information on how to properly care for the resort’s vineyard that is cultivated on the basis of the requirements of EU Regulation 834/07 (on organic farming) and includes 13 indigenous varieties. The guests participated in all the necessary seasonal works and also informed on the art of cultivation through the personal experiences and memories of a hotel staff member.
Following the introduction to Creta Maris’ vineyard, the guests took part in a wine tasting event that included the sampling of the indigenous varieties of Crete that are maintained by producers participating in the Futouris Project.
During the event, the staff of Creta Maris created a friendly atmosphere and participants discovered the secrets of the production of Cretan wine and received experiences from the senses of sight, smell and taste.
According to Creta Maris, the aim of the two events was to introduce the guests to one of the most oldest Cretan rural activities and also inform them about the initiatives of developing sustainable nutrition structures on the destination of Crete.
“The participation of the guests was noteworthy, giving them a valuable experience of the Cretan lifestyle, culture and traditions,” the management of Creta Maris said in an announcement.
