PayPal Survey: 99% of Greeks Recommend a Trip to Greece
According to a recent PayPal survey, 99 percent of Greeks would wholeheartedly recommend that foreign travelers holiday in their country and visit the islands, the Acropolis, Delphi and Thessaloniki.
The survey conducted by analysts GfK on behalf of PayPay, attempts to profile the Greek tourist, who prefers to travel to Central and Eastern Europe, with Bulgaria (44 percent), Cyprus (41 percent) and the Czech Republic (15 percent) as top choices for recreation (70 percent) and culture (30 percent), spending 250 to 1,000 euros over an average week-long stay mostly in spring or on weekends.
More specifically, 35 percent of all Greek travelers spend 250-500 euros and 34 percent between 501 and 1,000 euros.
Greek vacationers turn to the Internet for information with 57 percent using search engines ahead of travel, 55 percent considering reviews and 25 percent relying on social media for accommodation and sites to visit.
Determining factors in their decision for accommodation are rates (87 percent) and good reviews (74 percent) as well as proximity to the city center (75 percent), payment methods (71 percent), quiet atmosphere (65 percent) and Wi-Fi availability (64 percent).
A total of 73 percent of Greek travelers opt to stay in hotels, 16 percent at friends and 12 percent in rented rooms or apartments and preferred method of payment is cash at 62 percent, by credit card at 54 percent and via PayPal at 14 percent.
