Some 90 hoteliers attended seminars on Crete were informed on all they need to know about Travelife for Hotels & Accommodations, the internationally recognized sustainability certification scheme for the tourism industry.

The Travelife seminars took place in Heraklio and Rethymno during June 7-9 and participants were briefed on the Travelife audit checklist, the inspection procedures as well as the ways in which the Travelife certification helps hotels add value, generate cost savings and promote their sustainability.

“The seminars were a real opportunity to present the practices of sustainability to hoteliers, along with the ways they can manage their environmental issues and at the same time come close to the local communities and their staff,” Sotiris Milonas, Travelife’s destination representative for Greece, told the Greek Travel Pages (GTP).

“The large participation in the seminars reveals the strong interest hoteliers have in the direction of sustainability,” he said.

Milonas also thanked the hotels that hosted the Travelife seminars.

The seminar that took place in Heraklio was hosted by Aldemar Royal Mare Hotel in Hersonissos. During the seminar, the Aldemar Resorts Group presented its own Corporate Social Responsibility program — ‘At Aldemar we CARE’ — and highlighted the importance of the cyclical economy and the hospitality economy.

It is noted that the seminars were attended by the TUI Netherlands sustainability team with Marjolein V.

“We want to be close to all hotels — whether they are Travelife members or not — and these seminars give us the ideal opportunity,” Milonas said.
