Aegean: Passenger Traffic Up 8% in April-May
Aegean’s overall passenger traffic in the domestic and international network during April and May amounted to 2.1 million passengers, recording an eight percent increase compared to 2016, the airline said on Tuesday.
According to an announcement, Aegean’s international passenger traffic increased by 15 percent during April and May to 1.2 million passengers, compared to the same period in 2016. The Athens base recorded the largest increase, with international passengers increasing by 19 percent.
The company said that it managed to maintain its total number of passengers stable in its domestic network, despite the reduction in state-subsidized air routes to remote Greek destinations (that had been operated by Olympic Air) and the entry of new competitor airlines in the market.
According to Aegean, throughout the entire network, including domestic flights, load factors improved significantly, by eight percentage points to 79 percent in 2017, from 71 percent during the same period in 2016.
