European Pole Vaulters to Compete in ‘5th Athens Street Pole Vault’ Event
Athens will host some of the best pole vaulters in Europe during the 5th Athens Street Pole Vault, which will take place on Thursday, June 1, at Syntagma square in the city center. The event will kick off at 5:15 pm.
Τhe annual sports event is included in the Special Premium Meetings of the European Athletics Association, as one of the main pole vault meetings in Europe.
Organized by the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS), this year’s event will feature last year’s winner of the Athens Street Pole Vault, Greek world champion Konstantinos Philippidis and other distinguished Greek athletes. “I will compete with the best intentions and aim for a good performance,” Philippidis said during a press conference on Tuesday. “I will compete for the people and my federation, in order to support the event,” he added.
The event, which is supported by the Municipality of Athens and sponsored by DHL, will also host distinguished pole volters Tobias Scherbath from Germany, Vladyslav Malykhin from Ukraine and Ilya Mudrov from Russia.
The Athens Street Pole Vault first took place in 2013 in the area of Zappeion, central Athens In 2014 it was moved to Flisvos Marina and for the last two years it has been taking place at Syntagma Square.
