Metro and Suburban Railway to Run Normally, Strike Announced for June 1
The routes of intercity trains and of the Proastiakos suburban railway will run normally on Tuesday, May 30 and Wednesday May 31, according to Greek railway operator Trainose.
On Friday, the railway operator had announced the cancellation of routes from Tuesday, May 30, until Thursday, June 1, due to rolling walkouts by the PEPE union that represents rail workers.
The PEPE union called off its walkouts and instead will hold a 24-hour strike on Thursday, June 1.
As a result of the strike, metro line 3 (blue line) will operate only until Doukisis Plakendias station and there will be no Proastiakos suburban railway or metro services to Athens International Airport.
The rail workers are protesting against the state of rail infrastructure as well as the conditions that drivers are required to work under.
