SNFCC Welcomes All to ‘Summer Nostos Festival’

With the participation of more than 400 distinguished artists from Greece and abroad, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) this summer will host the Summer Nostos Festival, an event dedicated to arts, sports and education, open to Athenians and visitors.

The festival will take place on June 18-25 and will include most forms of art – music, dance, architecture – as well as open discussions, screenings and educational programs for children and adults.

In a recent press conference, the Foundation’s executives revealed the Festival’s main objectives, while referring to its title, which includes the Greek word “Nostos” (meaning “homecoming”), used to highlight the “return” to all things and ideas that summer is all about, an announcement said.

More than 75 events will be held on 5 stages and other indoor and outdoor venues of the SNFCC, including live performances by Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos, The Cinematic Orchestra, singers Nikos Portokaloglou, Monika, Saul Williams and Eleanor Friedberger; an open discussion between SNFCC’s architect Renzo Piano and the New York Times architectural critic Michael Kimmelman; the SNF RUN: Running into the Future, which this year will include two different routes (10 km and 6 km) and the 1 km race for Special Olympics athletes; The Night Dances, a music and poetry performance featuring acclaimed British actress, Charlotte Rampling; performances by the Greek National Opera; a simultaneous chess encounter of legendary Garry Kasparov, with young champions from Greece.
