Greece Participates in Ethics and Tourism Meet in Poland

Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development Yiorgos Tziallas represented Greece at the 3rd UNWTO International Congress on Ethics and Tourism, which took place in Krakow, Poland, on April 27-28.

The congress brought together policy makers, national tourism administration, travel and tourism companies and trade associations, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and civil society bodies, as well as academics and media outlets. The two-day event looked into ways that the tourism sector can ensure sustainability, shared responsibility and accountability in developing tourism infrastructure, products and services. It also explored good practices of private-public cooperation through policies and strategies based on human rights, transparency and good governance.

Addressing the conference on the issue of good governance as a driving force for promoting sustainability, Tziallas said that sustainable development is a strategic priority in Greek tourism ministry policies, which include encouraging investments that respect the environment, as well as Greece’s natural and cultural heritage.

Besides laying out the ministry’s goals, which include extending the tourism season and promoting new forms of thematic tourism, Tziallas also met with Poland’s sport and tourism minister, Witold Bańka, on the sidelines of the event to discuss potential collaborations.

The 3rd UNWTO International Congress on Ethics and Tourism was organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in collaboration with the European Commission (EC) and the Government of Poland.
