Hotel Grande Bretagne & King George Switch Off Lights for Earth Hour 2017

By spending an hour in the dark this Saturday March 25th, Athens’ two central hotels will join millions around the world to send a powerful message for a brighter future for the planet and show how our actions today can change our future for the better.

Hotel Grande Bretagne and King George will turn off their lights in observance of Earth Hour, the global environmental awareness event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas will interrupt their illumination for one hour. People across the world will cut off energy consumption in their homes in various ways and come together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet, our home.

More precisely, Hotel Grande Bretagne & King George will implement energy-saving measures during the Earth Hour on Saturday, March 25, at 8:30 p.m. local time, such as: Turning off exterior lighting; dimming interior lighting in all public and banqueting areas as well as restaurant outlets offering guests the opportunity of a candlelit dinner. Hotel guests will be notified of these actions with messages on their in-room TV screens and will be given the opportunity to participate, by switching off or dimming their in-room lighting. The hotel management will also encourage its associates to support Earth Hour by doing the same in their own homes. Moreover, to underscore its dedication to environmental sustainability, parent Marriott International will donate 1 US dollar to WWF for each property that posts their Earth Hour efforts on Twitter.

“We are very happy that we have the chance to participate for another year to this very important action for our environment both locally and at an international level through Marriott, all united in order to increase awareness towards climate change and energy saving for the future of our planet”, said Tim Ananiadis, General Manager and Managing Director of Hotel Grande Bretagne and King George Athens.

Hotel Grande Bretagne & King George are owned and controlled respectively by Lampsa Hellenic Hotels S.A, subsidiary company of Laskaridis group, and managed by Marriott International, Inc.
