Kountoura Visits Canada to Promote Destination Greece
Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura recently met entrepreneurs and tourism professionals in Toronto to promote Greece as a preferred tourist destination to Canadian travellers.
During her official trip to Canada, following her visit to New York, Minister Kountoura gave a keynote speech at a special event “Window in Greece”, an event organized by the Consulate General in Toronto to present tourism investment opportunities in Greece and promote Greek tourism to the Canadian market.
Addressing an audience of Greek Canadian and Canadian entrepreneurs, local tour operators and representatives of the Greek Community of Toronto, Minister Kountoura presented the government’s plans for the promotion of Greece as a global attractive destination all 365 days of the year.
She focused on the prospects for a direct cooperation between the two countries in order to boost incoming tourism from Canada and she invited businessmen to explore “significant opportunities” to invest in the dynamically growing Greek tourism sector.
The tourism minister also held meetings with Greek and Canadian tour operators and representatives of a Canadian airline and discussed establishing a targeted promotion for 2017 tourism packages and extending Greece’s tourism season.
The minister’s agenda also included a meeting with Metropolitan Archbishop Sotirios (Athanassoulas) of Toronto with whom she discussed launching a cooperation to promote religious and pilgrimage tourism.
Moreover, she met with the President of the Greek Community of Toronto, Antonis Artemakis, and discussed the possibilities to form a cooperation to attract more members of the Greek Diaspora and their families to holiday in Greece.
Her agenda also included meetings with investors, entrepreneurs and representatives from the Greek-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and film studios.
