Qatar Airways Supports Greek Food Week ‘OMG’ in Melbourne
Qatar Airways flies Greece’s top culinary superstars to Melbourne
Qatar Airways has embraced Melbourne’s iconic multicultural culinary landscape as the presenting partner of George Calombaris’ annual “Oh My Greek Week” (OMG Week).
Calombaris’ OMG Week took place November 21 – 26 and was a celebration of Hellenic culture, cuisine and community made up of a number of exclusive dining experiences, masterclasses and special events across landmark venues including The Press Club, Gazi, Hellenic Republic, Federation Square, The Lindrum Hotel, Atlantic Peninsula and the Hellenic Museum.
Qatar Airways supported OMG Week by flying a number of renowned Greek chefs from Athens to Melbourne. The award-winning airline has doubled its Australian network in the last nine months and now serves Australians from four gateways – Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Sydney.
As home to one of the largest Greek communities in the world, Melbourne is the perfect location for a festival of Greek gastronomy.
Qatar Airways’ Senior Manager for Australasia, Adam Radwanski, said the airline was delighted to be a part of the celebration of Greek cuisine spearheaded by George Calombaris, an Ambassador for Qatar Airways in Australia.
“Of the 38 European cities we currently fly to, Athens is one of the most popular destinations among Australians. We provide one of the fastest and most convenient pathways from Australia to Greece via our state-of-the-art Hamad International Airport, with three daily flights from Doha to Athens for our passengers to choose from. Qatar Airways is delighted to embrace our connection with Greece by supporting the exciting culinary celebration of Hellenic culture that is OMG Week”, Radwanski said.
OMG Week featured some the most acclaimed Hellenic chefs from Greece and around the world including Christoforos Peskias (Balthazar), Stelios Parliaros (Sweet Alchemy), Maria Loi (Loi Estiatorio), Nikos Roussos and Georgianna Hiliadaki (Funky Gourmet), Alex Tsiotinis (CTC restaurant), Gikas Xenakis (Aleria), Polychronis Damalas (Ovac Restaurant), Yiannais Baxevanis (Arc), Chris Houseas (42 Bar), Vasilis Kyritsis and Nikos Bakoukis (The Clumsies), and singer Michalis Hatzigiannis.
“Qatar Airways was proud to support OMG Week’s vision of bringing people together for a week of culinary creation and cross collaboration in Melbourne, which reflects the airline’s own brand message – Going Places Together“, the airline said in an announcement.
