Madonna Introduces Greek Muse ‘Euterpe’ to the World at Billboard Event
Global icon Madonna hit the Billboard Women In Music 2016 red carpet on Friday wearing a Gucci custom multicolored matching two-piece silk suit completely covered in metallic gold and red tigers and the Greek name “Euterpe” embroidered on the back.
At Billboard’s Women in Music 2016 event, Madonna was honored as Woman of the Year.
Madonna chose Instagram to tell fans what the word meant. She shared a photo of the back of her suit along with the caption: “Thank You Gucci for the Beautiful Suit! in Greek it says: The Goddess of Music who brings JOY!”
According to Greek Mythology, Euterpe is one of the seven muses that protected the arts in ancient Greece. The Muse of lyric poetry and music, Euterpe was also the muse that represented joy, pleasure and flute playing! Her attribute was the double flute, that some say she invented.
Madonna’s award came after the her Rebel Heart Tour — for which she sold more than 1 million tickets and walked away with $170 million — extended her record as the highest-grossing female touring artist of all time.
