Greece Set to Impress at WTM London 2016
Greece is getting ready for three busy and productive days at World Travel Market (WTM) London, which will open its doors on Monday, November 7, at ExCeL and run until Wednesday, November 9.
WTM London, now in its 37th year, is the must attend B2B event where the travel industry conducts and concludes its deals.
Greece is attending WTM London having maintained its strong momentum in 2016 and continued its course to growth. International arrivals are expected to exceed the record-breaking number of 26 million that had been achieved in 2015.
As every year, the Visit Greece (Greek National Tourism Organization-GNTO) stand at EU 1200 will host a number of exhibitors including representatives of hotels, regions and travel companies from across the country and its islands who will network, negotiate and conduct deals.
Events @ Visit Greece stand
On the opening day of WTM on Monday, the GNTO will hold a press conference at the WTM London Press Centre ME850 for media and professionals.
Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura will give the latest updates from Greece with a re-cap of 2016 and a projection towards 2017. Moreover, the latest developments in Greece’s gastronomic and cultural scenes will be revealed by guest speakers Konstantinos Demenagas, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre Chief Operating Officer and Miltiadis Karoubas, Hellenic Chefs Federation President. The press conference will be followed by a networking event with Greek wines and canapés. The event is open to all media.
On Tuesday, the Visit Greece stand (EU1200 & EU1270) will host a Q & A event at 3-4pm with historian, author and broadcaster Bettany Hughes to discuss her love of Chios island. The event will be followed by a reception with Chios local liqueurs and sweets. The event is open to all media.
Between Monday and Wednesday the Greece stand will be open to media and tourism professionals for a Greek breakfast between 10am and 11am. The event offers media and professionals the opportunity to do some networking with Greek exhibitors (hotels, regions and travel companies) while sampling some of Greece’s best traditional flavours.
For all three days of the WTM, the Visit Greece team will also serve a Greek lunch to media and travel professionals between 12 noon and 1 pm. Each day will be a tribute to the local gastronomy of a different region of Greece. Day one will feature delicacies from the island of Crete, day two from the islands of the North Aegean and day three from Northern Greece, Halkidiki and Thasos.
Tip: Three lucky winners attending the Greek lunch will be chosen daily, with an opportunity to win a holiday prize, a Kindle and a copy of Victoria Hislop’s new book ‘Cartes Postales of Greece’.
Media and travel professionals will also not want to miss the Greek happy hour between Monday and Wednesday at 5pm to 7pm. The Visit Greece team invites all for evening drinks including Greek wines, beers and liqueurs. Monday’s event will include live music and Tuesday’s event a DJ set after 6pm.
Tip: The first 10 attendees who visit the Greece stand (EU1200) and tweet about the events on Monday and Tuesday will also take away a goody bag of gourmet Greek products!
