Key Tourism Figures 2016: Konstantinos Alexopoulos, CEO Domotel Hotels & Resorts
Official Tourism Message
The year 2016 has been one of many challenges for the Greek Tourism.
The increase up to double figures in the VAT, the 8th consequent year of the country’s recession with continuing social-economical distortions and the global uncertainty caused by terrorism acts in the area created a volatile environment.
The Greek Tourism community responded sensitively with great maturity and managed to sustain the growth of the recent years. Still, it is evident that we have reached a point where further growth to be realized needs more than reflexes and hard work from the private sector.
The updated study of SETE for the Tourism development towards 2021 shows the need for certain acts both from the public and the private sector in order to capitalize the past years’ success and grow further to reach a target of over 35 million visitors.
It is essential to take advantage of the country’s unique characteristics, set up a regulatory framework that will give this opportunity for growth and invest in an environment of synergies including all stakeholders.
