Counting Down the Days to the 1st Andros Trail Race
In a month’s time, amateur and professional athletes from across the globe will be running the footpaths of Andros in one of the Cycladic island’s biggest sporting events, the 1st Andros Trail Race, to take place on October 2.
More than 100 mountain running fans from Greece and abroad including Norway, France, Lithuania and China have registered for the event which includes a 22km Great Route and a 10km Small Route. Future plans include the addition of new routes every year.
Jointly organized by Andros Trail Race, the Andros Municipality and the South Aegean Region, the 1st Andros Trail Race aims to highlight the Cycladic island’s rich natural landscape – which includes everything from Venetian footpaths, monasteries and medieval castles to certified hiking trails, ravines and traditional villages – as well as its alternative tourism offerings.
If you haven’t registered yet, now’s the time here by September 25. Participants are entitled to discounts on ferry tickets, rental vehicles and accommodation. There is also a full tour package available that includes transportation, accommodation, catering and race participation fee through RunninGreece sports & travel agency.
In the meantime, the Andros Association of Volunteer Firefighters is working hard to clear all the routes and trails and ensure the safety and quality of the event.
Both races kick off at Korthi central square. Runners completing the 22km race as well as either the Tinos Challenge or the Syros City Trail are entitled to a free participation in select races in Italy through Camelbag ASD.
The event is made possible with the support of local businesses and volunteers.
The Greek Travel Pages (GTP) is a media sponsor of the Andros Trail Race.
