The 15th Patmos Sacred Music Festival is underway featuring the best performers of the genre with all events free of charge.

Patmos, a Dodecanese island, is known for its religious character as a major world pilgrimage destination due to the cave where John is said to have received his Revelation and written the Gospel (the Cave of the Apocalypse), as well as to several monasteries on the island dedicated to Saint John.

The 15th Patmos Sacred Music Festival is organized by the Patmos Municipality Cultural Centre with the support of the South Aegean Region, the Secretariat General for the Aegean and Island Policy and the Monastery of St. John the Theologian.

Events held nightly at 8.30pm outside the Cave of the Apocalypse include the presentation of major religious works as well as traditional island music and songs of emigration by leading performers, ensembles and instrumentalists specializing in Byzantine, Orthodox, Catholic and folk repertoire.

Both the 10th century Monastery of Saint John the Theologian and the Cave of the Apocalypse have been inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
