Pioneering Greeks: Kostarelos Greek Delicacies – The Place to Go for Traditional Cheese

Welcome to “Pioneering Greeks”, the weekly column of GTP Headlines, which highlights the Greeks that stand out for their creative thinking in the business world. “Pioneering Greeks” is a collaboration between LoveGreece.com and Greek Travel Pages (GTP).

This week we introduce Kostarelos Greek Delicacies, a company that entered the world of cheesemaking in 1937 by the keen hands of Kyriakos Kostarelos. Nowadays, the company is run by brothers Kyriakos and Nikos, who continue their family’s legacy.

Keeping the values that were passed on to them, which are none other than staying loyal to traditional cheesemaking while using the most modern techniques, they produce a large variety of products that have drawn the attention of those who take cheese “seriously”.

A significant factor of the high quality of their products is their commitment to the Greek mentality, which in this case is portrayed by the use of small and free herds that are fed by the pure meadows of Karystos, in South Evia, thus achieving a taste that travels us back to the times of our ancestors.

Their creations include the famous feta cheese, goat cheese, graviera, the desired creamy tsalafouti, ladotiri, and of course their yogurts.

Kostarelos Cheesemakers and their exceptional products can be found in seven stores in Attica. The one that makes the difference is the one in the Kolonaki district in Athens that sports a unique concept: a Greek delicatessen where everyone can find their dairy products and sample unique recipes — sandwiches, salads and a unique plateau of cheese and sausages of strictly Greek origins — exclusively made by the well-known chef Chrysanthos Karamolegos.

Inspired by the dynamism and creativity of the Greek entrepreneurial spirit, LoveGreece was founded in 2013 as an initiative to boost and promote the country’s image abroad by profiling talented and successful Greeks. With their ethos and vision, Greece’s entrepreneurs and professionals are an important aspect of the country worth highlighting to the world. LoveGreece is powered by Gina Mamidaki, the founder of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation.
