Larissa to Scout Out Innovators @ Startup Weekend
The central Greek town of Larissa joins dozens of cities across the globe looking for fresh talent through its first Startup Weekend on May 13-15 to be held at the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaly.
Aiming to scout out innovators and then arm them with all the necessary tools to make their dreams come true, the 1st Larissa Startup Weekend invites developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and basically anyone over 18 to pitch ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas, and then work to develop a working prototype, demo or presentation by Sunday evening.
“We stand by the young, we want to support young people because they have proven to be the ‘antidote’ to the crisis,” Thessaly Prefect Costas Agorastos said during the press conference for the event.
Run by startup accelerator Techstars, the Startup Weekend initiative has thus far hosted more than 2,500 events in 170 countries and involved over 210,000 entrepreneurs.
During the weekend, mentors from all industries will be on hand to coach teams, offer expertise and help them develop their ideas. Prizes for winning groups include technological equipment, training via seminars and workshops, legal and accounting support, business guidance, coordination and networking opportunities.
