True to the traditions of the region, the 5-star Epirus Palace Hotel in northern Greece, celebrated Carnival weekend and Clean Monday with a series of events that highlighted the age-old customs of Epirus.

Epirus PalaceIn the lead up to Clean Monday, visitors had the opportunity to participate in the vivid carnival events held in the hotel that included everything from masquerade balls for the kiddies to tours of the wider region of Ioannina, its famed lake and surrounding villages.

Holidaymakers were treated to a wide variety of local delicacies including plenty of tsipouro while they participated in the carnival revelry on Sunday night during the traditional “Tzamales” — bonfires lit across town — which symbolize purification and preparation for the spiritual journey of Lent to Easter.

Guests then had the chance to indulge in the culinary delights served traditionally on Clean Monday, thus marking the beginning of Lent ahead of Orthodox Easter.

The 200-room Epirus Palace Hotel is located in the historic town of Ioannina. At the heart of the so-called Greek Alps, besides offering warm hospitality and quality accommodation, it is also an ideal choice for conference and company events.
