Greece’s Aegean Among 2015’s Fastest Growing Airlines

Aegean Airlines Airbus A320-232Greek carrier Aegean is ranked ninth among the world’s 20 fastest growing airlines in 2015, according to weekly e-journal anna.aero (Airline Network News and Analysis).

A total of 359 airlines invested in more than 3,100 new services across 173 countries boosting both frequency and number of routes last year, anna.aero’s New Route Database reveals.

European carriers stole the show, with easyJet and Ryanair topping the list, launching 99 new routes each in 2015 and achieving growth despite the impact of terror strikes and turmoil.

Ryanair broke the 100-million-passenger barrier serving a total of 101.4 million, with easyJet handling 69.8 million travelers in 2015.

The complete list according to the number of newly launched routes in 2015: easyJet (99) and Ryanair (99), Vueling (90), Wizz Air (85), Southwest Airlines (77), Allegiant Air (69), Pobeda (47), Volotea (47), Aegean Airlines (44), Germania (44), Norwegian (43), Turkish Airlines (42), China Southern Airlines (41), Spirit Airlines (40), Frontier Airlines (39), China Eastern Airlines (38), SunExpress Germany (37), Delta Air Lines (35), Aeroflot (34) and American Airlines (34).
