Halkidiki Offerings on Show in Milan, Make the News in China
As part of its aggressive promotional strategy to get the word out, the Halkidiki Tourism Organization (HTO) organized a familiarization event last month at the Expo 2015 in Milan.
A joint initiative with Doc Itinerari, the “Traveling Halkidiki: Yesterday and Today” event saw some 100 representatives from Italian tour agencies and media, who also had the chance to try out select Greek products.
Archaeologists Andreas Steiner and Carlo Casi of Archeo magazine were also present, as were RAI International journalists Massimo Brega and Fabio Marzano, who prepared the “Money & Art” documentary featuring, among others, the icons of Mount Athos.
In the meantime, the HTO also welcomed journalist Erik Nilsson from China’s largest English-language newspaper, China Daily. Organized in collaboration with the Greek Consulate in Shanghai, the China unit of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and the Thessaloniki Municipality, the China Daily special has already focused on the region’s yachting offerings, and will also feature destinations in Northern Greece, including Halkidiki and Thessaloniki, as well as cultural, culinary and marine tourism offerings.
Mr Nilsson visited among others Mount Athos and Ancient Stagira, the birthplace of Aristotle, and had the opportunity to sample local delicacies and wine, which he said Chinese travelers have a particular interest in.
