The workers’ unions of Athens Suburban Railway (TrainOSE) and the InterCity, which connects Attica, the surrounding regions and the main cities to the capital’s centre, the airport and Piraeus port and other cities across Greece, as well as the Athens Metro have announced cancellations of their routes and work stoppages today.

Cancellations for Monday, August 3, apply for the following routes between 10am and 3pm: Athens – Kalabaka – Athens, Alexandroupolis – Dikaion – Alexandroupolis, Thessaloniki – Florina – Thessaloniki, Larissa – Volos – Larissa, Lianokladi – Lamia – Stylida – Lianokladi, Diakofto – Kalavryta – Diakofto, Pyrgos – Katakolo – Olympia – Pyrgos.

The suburban railway (proastiakos) will not carry out Athens, Patra, and Larissa-Thessaloniki routes between 10am and 3pm.

The Athens Metro, meanwhile, will not be running between Doukissis Plakentias station and the airport between 1pm and 3pm.

The workers’ unions are calling for the immediate recruitment of additional personnel as well as ensuring that the Greek train service retains its public character.

In the meantime, Greece’s air traffic controllers have announced that they will hold a work stoppage on Wednesday, August 5 between 2pm and 6pm.
